Effective workflow management requires a clear and organized interface. Too much information can overwhelm users, while too little can leave gaps in critical details. Puzzle’s Step Sidebar Configuration feature allows you to customize your step sidebar, ensuring that only the most relevant step inputs are displayed.

With this feature, teams can simplify their workflow views by hiding unused fields and focusing on essential details. Whether you’re tracking project progress, assigning roles, or managing costs, Step Sidebar Configuration helps streamline collaboration and improve efficiency across your workspace.

Benefits of Step Sidebar Configuration

Declutter Your Workspace – Hide unnecessary fields to create a clean and distraction-free workflow.

🎯 Increase Efficiency – Quickly access the most relevant step inputs without scrolling through unused fields.

👥 Improve Team Collaboration – Ensure that all team members see a consistent and streamlined sidebar, reducing confusion.

🔄 Adapt to Changing Needs – Easily update your sidebar configuration as workflows evolve, keeping your process views optimized over time.

How to Configure the Step Sidebar

By default, new workspaces have a minimal sidebar that includes only:

  • Step Name

  • Tool

  • Notes

However, additional step inputs such as Step Status, Step Type, Executor, Associated Roles, Attributes, Cost Calculator, Tasks, and Sync can be enabled based on your team’s requirements. Follow the step-by-step guide below:

1️⃣ Enabling or Disabling Step Inputs

  1. Open your Workspace Settings > Workflow Settings.

  2. Navigate to the Step Sidebar Configuration section.

  3. Locate the list of available sidebar inputs.

  4. Toggle ON the inputs you want to display, or toggle OFF those you don’t need.

  5. Once updated, your step sidebar will reflect the selected inputs for all users who visit the workspace..

2️⃣ Viewing Changes in Your Workflow Sidebar

  • Open any step in your workflow.

  • The sidebar will now reflect only the fields you selected, creating a cleaner and more customized view.

🚨 Note: If you enable "Step Cost Calculator" or other fields but don’t see it in the sidebar, refresh the page to apply changes.

Best Practices for Step Sidebar Configuration

🎯 Keep it Simple – Only enable inputs that your team actively uses.

🔄 Update as Your Needs Evolve – Reconfigure the sidebar as your processes change.

Make Navigation Easier: Set Your Default Workflow Tab

Along with customizing your Step Sidebar, you can also set a default workflow tab so that every time you open workflows, you land directly on the most relevant tab instead of the first one in the list. This small customization saves time and ensures users can immediately focus on the workflows that matter most to them.

How to Set a Default Workflow Tab

  1. Open Workspace Settings in Puzzle.

  2. Go to the Workflow Settings section.

  3. Select your preferred Default Workflow Tab from the available options.

  4. This setting is user-specific, meaning each person can set their own preference.

💡 Example: A Sales team member may choose Lead Generation as their default tab, while Finance may prefer Billing.

Conclusion

With Step Sidebar Configuration, teams can eliminate distractions, improve workflow clarity, and work more efficiently in Puzzle. Whether you need a minimal view or a fully detailed sidebar, this feature lets you tailor your workspace to meet your team’s needs.
